

She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Chester and Roxie Simpson. On May 20, 1949, she married the love of her life, the late Robert Hoyt Lewis. Together they raised four children in the town of Redbank. Athens became home in 1976.
Martha was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She had a true servant’s heart heading many groups such as the Lioness Club and Jaycettes of Chattanooga. She was heavily involved in the local and state PTA during her children's time in school. One of her most accomplished and proud memories was her time as State President of the Elks Women's Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her son, Murphy Lewis.
Survivors include her brother, Edwin Simpson of Athens; children, Janet (Louis) Coite of Edgewater, FL; Bobbie Lewis of Athens and Brenda (Terry) Carnes of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren, Candice (Ryan) Meeler of Watkinsville, Kevin Lewis of Athens, Megan (Chase) Crevier of Sioux Falls, SD; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Abbey Meeler and Silas Crevier.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 20 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 144 Jennings Mill Rd., Athens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aidmore Children's Center, 2394 Morrison Rd., Conyers, Georgia 30094.
