Mary Ellen Anderson

A native of Highland, Illinois, Mrs. Anderson was the daughter of the late Samuel McCune Ward and Nelle Mable Kesner Ward. She graduated from Highland High School and Summers College of Commerce, St. Louis, MO. Mrs. Anderson married Harvey W. Anderson on February 23, 1944 at the First United Methodist Church by Dr. Pierce Harris in Atlanta, GA. Upon Mr. Anderson’s retirement, they moved to Athens, GA. Mr. Anderson passed away in 1985.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Piedmont Garden Club, Atlanta First United Methodist Church, and the Ansley Park Golf and Country Club in Atlanta. Also, while a resident of the Ansley Park Neighborhood she was a member of the supper club and the sewing club for over 40 years.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Mary Nelle Clifton and husband, Donald Butch; two grandchildren, Mary McCall Wilder and husband, Scott and Donald Anderson Clifton, and five great-grandchildren, Brosnon and Mary Scott Wilder and Camila, Sophia, and Alexandra Clifton.

Graveside services will be held 11AM Wednesday, June 20th at Oconee Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Children’s Ministries, 327 N. Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30601.
