

A native of Hawkinsville, GA, Mrs. Duke was the daughter of the late Robert H. Scarborough and Janet Burton Scarborough and was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Elliott Duke and daughter, Janet Duke-Irby. Mrs. Duke was an avid golfer for many years and an artist of many talents including, oil painting, stain glass, jewelry making, china painting, a hooker of rugs, and a member of HAPPY HOOKER Club. Mrs. Duke was a St. Mary’s volunteer for years and enjoyed many years as a loyal volunteer at the Athens Botanical Garden. She enjoyed a full and wonderful life and attributed her longevity to a healthy life style and walking 6 miles a day in the Five Points Area for many years.
Survivors include her son, John Duke of Hartwell, GA; daughter, Rebecca Duke Evans and husband, Charlie of Atlanta, GA; her loving brother, Robert Henry Scarborough and wife, Rene of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Paul Irby and wife, Tracie of Flowery Branch, GA, Catherine Irby-Arnold and husband, Schuyler of Seattle, WA, Franklin Irby, Brian Duke and wife, Brandy of Houston, TX, Charlie Evans and wife, Courtney of Atlanta, GA, Paul Evans and wife, Rebecca of Atlanta, and Mary Evans Canada and husband, Mark of Pensacola, FL; great-grandchildren, Caroline Irby and Christopher Irby both of Flowery Branch, Nikki Irby Evenson of Commerce, James Duke Irby of Seattle, WA, Thomas Duke Evans and Lila Maria Evans both of Atlanta; great-grandson, Conner Evenson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Mary’s friend, Teresa Lester and the wonderful staff at Magnolia Estates of Bogart.
A private memorial service will held.
