Mary Kathryn Payne

She was the daughter of the late Joan Nathaniel Wood and Janet LaRue Caldwell Wood.

Mary, known as Kay to family and friends, was known for her kindness and strength. She spent many years caring for her late husband. During Spring and Summer, you could find her in her garden or on the porch watching the birds in the yard. She also enjoyed playing Yahtzee and Rummy with family or doing arts & crafts activities. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with family.

She was not only a mother to her children, but also their best friend, confidant, and number one supporter. Her love for her grandchildren was also evident. She never missed a birthday, nor a Christmas present and always encouraged the family to get together for holidays. Kay’s legacy of strength, kindness, and love will live on through the children and grandchildren she loved so much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Wood and Llyod Wood, and her late husband, Michael Payne.

Survivors are her children, Rebecca Payne, Ericka Haney, Timothy Haney and Jason Seriel; step-daughter, Lisa Payne; brothers, Wayne Wood, Steve Wood and Paul Wood; sister, Wanda Head; grandchildren, Shylee Conway, Cowen Conway, Aiden Seriel, Haleigh Seriel, Brooklyn Seriel, Waylen Seriel and Gracelyn Haney; step grandchildren, Jayden Burke, Jordon Jacobs, Gavin Jacobs and Heaven Payne.

Services are being planned and will be announced when finalized.
