Mrs. Tate was born and raised in Clermont, Georgia, was a long-time resident of Athens and had lived in Nicholson for the past 25 years. She retired after 42 years of service from the Clarke County Board of Education, having worked in the cafeteria at Whitehead Road Elementary School for her entire career. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mae Jones Powers, husband, Raymond Tate, son, Ronnie Tate, granddaughter, Stephanie Tate and eight siblings.
She is survived by her son, Michael Tate of Nicholson; granddaughters, Jamie Thrasher and her husband, Derek of Monroe and Carey Tate of Oakwood; and her former daughter-in-law, Elaine Bergmann of Oakwood; many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Monday, March 9, 2020 in Bernstein Funeral Home, immediately followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel officiated by Reverend Dr. Ronnie Healan.
The burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
