Skip began her teaching career in Denver, Colorado, and later taught at the U.S. Air Force Base in Madrid, Spain. After returning to the States, she taught for many years in South Carolina before moving back to Colorado, where she continued teaching until she retired. She had a special place in her heart for first graders and loved helping children gain confidence with language and reading. Even after retirement, she stayed connected with the classroom as a substitute teacher and school volunteer.
Skip loved theater, and whether she was acting in a local production, watching one of her grandchildren in a high school production, or enjoying a play on Broadway, she always enjoyed meeting the cast to express her appreciation.
Skip also loved to travel and spent as much time as she could visiting new places and meeting new people. She never met a stranger. With each adventure, she collected new stories and friendships, some of which endured for decades.
Her most enduring friendship was with Wanda Smith, her best friend of 83 years. In later life, Skip and Wanda lived near each other again, just as they had when they were young children.
Colorado always remained her anchor. No matter how far she traveled, she was always happiest in the mountains, where she felt most settled. She had a genuine love of adventure and of learning - and both of those loves stayed with her throughout her life. Most of all, she was known for her generous heart and her giving spirit.
Skip loved each of her grandchildren, and, as their Grammy, she kept up with their lives and held them close to her heart.
She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Diane Weathers (Mark Simpson), Alisha Adrian, Stacy Lanae Thurmond (Jonathan), and Rachel Lyn Snyder (Brad); and by her grandchildren: Scott Murray (Sara), Allyn Waller, Madi Waller, Morgan Wahlin, Adrian Waller, Tristan Wahlin, and Sam Snyder, as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her cat, Maisy, who was her constant companion.
Skip was preceded in death by her son, Ric David Weathers, her sister, Virginia Sweazy, and brothers, Walter Jamerson, Jr., Eugene Jamerson, and Wilbur “Shorty” Jamerson.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, supporting a local teacher would reflect the work that meant so much to her.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
