It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the earthy passing of Phyllis Juanita Thomas, age 69 of Athens. Phyllis passed away on February 27 following a battle with cancer. She was the youngest of fourteen children, all of whom preceded her in death: Owen and Cohen Guest, Herbert Guest, Harville Guest, Betty Palmer, Clyde Guest, Samuel James, Molline and Pauline Guest, Plumer Guest and George Guest.
Phyllis was born and raised in Athens, GA where she met and married the love of her life, Leonard Thomas and became mother to Leonard Jr, Lance, and Lawrence Thomas. Among her husband and three sons, Phyllis is also survived by nine grandchildren: Lauren, Leland, Katelen, Brett, Courtney, Lance Jr, Lacey, Landon, and Logan Thomas and one great-grandchild.
Her greatest joys in life were her family and love for sewing. Phyllis used her sewing talent to establish a business, Thomas and Palmer Alterations, that she owned and operated for 40 years. Phyllis was a humble servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Phyllis was a member of Deep Creek Baptist church in her youth. Genie Guest (mother) lead Phyllis to the Lord and she remained a faithful servant. She never met a stranger and her greatest attribute was giving love to others.
Phyllis fought so hard to stay with us but her body became weak, and while surrounded by family and friends, Jesus called her home.
Twenty-third Psalm
A Psalm of David
The Lord is buy shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
