A native of Augusta, Georgia, Richard was a son of the late Benny and Bessie Inglett. He was an entrepreneur and businessman who established several local businesses: Richard’s Shoes, Leigh’s Fashion, and The PlayOffs Sporting Goods. All of which supported the vibrancy and success of Athens’ downtown business district. He was also a valued member of the Athens Elks Club and Chamber of Commerce. Early in his life he served four years as a member of the US Naval forces stationed in Jacksonville, FL.
An occasional farmer, he provided his family with not only an abundance of fresh vegetables throughout their lives but the knowledge and love of all things grown in the south. He was a man of tall tales who watched in humor as his grandchildren believed his tales to be family facts—until they were old enough to know better.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bessie Lee Dunn Inglett, his twin brother, Robert and youngest brother, Charles, and he is survived by his four children: Cheryl Lanier, Jennie DeFoor, Richard Inglett Jr., and John Inglett.
Services for Richard “Poppa” Inglett will be held at 12:30 pm, Monday, October 24, at Bernstein’s Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky DeFoor officiating. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BernsteinFuneralHome.com for the Inglett family.
