A Georgia native, Mr. Smith was the son of the late John Pearson Smith and Lula Garland Smith and was a 25-year veteran of the United States Army. He also retired from ACE Hardware after 24 years as manager of the plumbing department. Mr. Smith was a member of Johnson Drive Baptist Church and an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Anna Bell Smith, William Smith, Othell Smith, Shelba Damron and Marlene Graham.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara Sailors Smith; children: Terry Smith, Shelia Hudgins (Mike Hardigree) and Kimberly Stewart; grandchildren: Brittany Lee (Tyler), Anastasia Monroe (Adam) and Amanda Dellinger (Dalen); great-grandchildren: Forrest Terry Lee, Evelynn Lee and Ethan Monroe.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
