Born July 2, 1927 in Selma, Alabama to Chester and Ora Bell, Ruby attended Selma High School and the University of Alabama where she met and married Robert (Bobby) Tillman. They had four children before moving to Athens, Georgia in 1957. Ruby founded the Athens Newcomers Club and helped to establish the Delta Zeta Sorority on the UGA campus. She was office manager for Athens Academy from their establishment in 1967 until her retirement. After retirement, she joined Bob as office manager for AZ Services where she worked until the age of 90. She was a "Pink Lady" at Athens Regional Hospital working the front desk as a greeter. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Athens Country Club.
Ruby loved playing Bridge (especially when she won), reading, a good cup of coffee, and cheering on The Crimson Tide of Alabama. She was happiest spending time with family and friends. Ruby was a ray of sunshine always wanting everyone to be happy and looking for the silver lining in every situation. Her bright smile framed by dimples could light up any room. She lived a happy 95 years surrounded by family and friends—who could ask for more.
Ruby is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Pam and Renny Manus, Kay and Mark Isley, Beth and Larry Thomas, her grandchildren: Laurie McClure, Chris Manus, Leon Leathers, Michael Isley, Marybeth Isley, Jennifer Craig, Jeffrey Thomas, Andrea Tillman, Emily Casper, Samantha Pedroza, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
