Neal was born on September 5, 1948, in Jackson County, Georgia, to Vivian Neighbors Evans and Paul Evans. He graduated from Athens High School in 1967 and later earned a business degree from Athens Technical College. Neal dedicated over 30 years of service to the University of Georgia, working in the Auxiliary Services Department. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his career.
Neal left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. He found great joy in coaching his sons in little league sports, gathering with family during the holidays, and sharing his wisdom with anyone willing to listen. One of his most cherished traditions was Sunday morning breakfast at the Cabinet Shop with his friends—something he rarely missed. Neal was a hardworking and driven man, whether tending to his rental properties, working in his yard to make it beautiful, or cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. Above all, he was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and caring brother who instilled strong values and a deep work ethic in his family.
Neal is survived by his children: Daniel Jack Evans, Thomas Neal Evans Jr., and Mary Elizabeth Evans; and his grandchildren: Parker Harrison Evans (Baily Crane Evans, and children Eleanor Louise Evans and Scottie Elizabeth Evans), Thomas Daniel Evans, and Holly Elizabeth Evans. He is also survived by his siblings: Edna England, Bruce Evans, Davis Evans, Donny Evans, and Ronny Evans.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Rundell Evans (“Betsy”); and his siblings: Danny Evans, Bobby Evans, Jimmy Evans, Eddie Evans, Billy Evans, and Pauline Maxey.
A drop-in celebration of Neal’s life will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, at Hull Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 39 Charlie Bolton Road, Hull, Georgia.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
