
Andrew “Bud” Murray of Atlanta passed away Jan 11th, 2015, in his sleep. Bud was born on Feb 9, 1933, in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Andrew and Genevieve Murray. Bud grew up in Evanston, Illinois, with his younger brother John and twin sister Isabelle (Cis). He graduated from Evanston High School in 1951 and then spent the decade of the 1950s serving in the US Army’s 82nd Airborne division and attending Arizona State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in History while playing football and golf.
From 1959-1962 Bud taught History and coached men’s sports at Cathedral High School in Gallop, New Mexico. In 1962 Bud moved to McHenry, Illinois, where he continued to teach and coach. There he met his wife Lorraine Frantz. They were married on July 25, 1970.
In 1968 Bud moved to Atlanta to teach at Marist High School. During his 20 years at Marist he taught Political Science, History, and PE while coaching various sports including wrestling, football and golf. During his years there, Bud helped Marist continue the War Eagles tradition of academic excellence and athletic success. Bud helped guide Marist to several state championships on the wrestling mat and football field. Bud’s passion, positive attitude and drive were infectious and left a lasting legacy.
Bud was a devoted father to his son Michael. He pushed me to pursue my goals and to follow my dreams. His love to his family will be missed but never forgotten….Michael
His parents, along with his wife, brother and sister, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Michael Murray of Atlanta, Georgia, nephew Richard "Rusty" (Denna) Schweizer, grandniece Stephanie (Brandon) Drew, grandniece Elizabeth (Eric) Keller, grandniece Emily (Chris) Legault, great grandniece Lily Keller. Rusty his nephew loved him and will miss “Unc” forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Marist High School’s Ivy Center will be held on Sunday, January 25th, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marist High School.
