

Ben was born at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota, to Albert and Doris (Wadel) Anderson on July 10, 1922. He graduated from Moorhead High School, Moorhead, Minnesota, in 1940. Ben enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1940 and was later a veteran of World War II, serving in the 8th Air Force from 1941-1946. Ben was awarded the Army Commendation Ribbon in 1946. He also served from 1951-52 earning the Armed Forces Reserve Medal in 1952. Ben married Helen Elaine Woodward on July 2, 1948, in Portland, Oregon. Ben’s extensive professional experience included employment with Northwest Airlines, Inc.; Triangle Maintenance Corporation; Mercury Services, Inc.; and, in private consulting that serviced aviation related businesses. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Brookhaven.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, who passed away on October 26, 1985; a brother, Albert Anderson, Jr.; and, a sister, Corrine Pollack.
Ben is survived by his second wife, Suzanne Layton Anderson, whom he married on September 12, 1987; two sons, Norman Anderson of New York, New York, and his wife Rita, and Kristian Anderson of Granite Bay, California, and his wife Ann; a step-daughter, Michelle Young Rivers of Brookhaven, and her husband Robert; three grandsons, Erik Anderson, Kyle Anderson, and Kurt Anderson (Victoria); one granddaughter, Kristen Anderson Merson (Greg); and one great-grandson, Jack Merson; as well as Michelle’s children, Elizabeth-Anne, Kathleen, and Bobby Rivers.
The Funeral will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 353 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA, 30308, with Fr. John Howren officiating. Reception to follow in O’Hagan Hall at the Basilica. Interment will be at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Brookhaven.
Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson and Son – Oglethorpe Hill Chapel.
A Memorial may be given to the Our Lady of the Assumption Conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
