OBITUARIO

Arthur Edwin Hicks

29 abril , 196314 agosto , 2019

Arthur Edwin Hicks passed suddenly of cardiac arrest on August 14th, 2019. Art was a talented, fun loving, compassionate, and giving soul. He touched everyone with his warmth and humor. A friend of Art's was a friend for life. He could light up a room with his warm radiant personality. Art had an incredible quick, funny, and sometimes biting sense of humor that would always put things in perspective or pull someone off of their "high horse".

Art was born in Atlanta April 29th, 1963. He graduated high school at the Northside School for Performing Arts. He worked on his craft through numerous local dance troupes and theater performances throughout high school, including the Sound of Music. After graduation, he attended Florida State University in the school for Restaurants and Hospitality. He later graduated from Mercer University Atlanta with a Bachelors of Arts degree. Art left Atlanta after graduation for New York City to pursue his dream of working in musical theater. He lived in the City waiting tables, doing auditions and performing. He carried that love of theater, dance and music throughout his life performing in annual performances of the Nutcracker and many other plays and musical programs.

Art began an extended career in real estate working first in apartment leasing and management with the Lincoln Property Company. In the over eight years with Lincoln, he earned numerous honors and awards for his production. He later moved into real estate sales focusing primarily as an on site agent. He was a founding agent with Paces Ferry Realty which later merged with Atlanta Fine Homes Sothebys. He had several project affiliations with Monte Hewett Homes and other builders focusing in the Atlanta market. Some of his more high profile projects including two high rise condo developments were the Sovereign and the Phoenix both on Peachtree Street, and the Brownstones on Habersham. Art maintained long relationships with everyone he worked with in real estate. He was a great sales associate and loyal partner always doing more than his fair share of the work load. He was trusted, talented , and tenacious in his real estate dealings.

Art's greatest gift was investing himself in the lives of others. He always was the first to reach out when there was a need. He never forgot a birthday, anniversary or life event. He was a loving and dependable son, and he was always striving to be connected with his siblings. He was the uncle that never forgot a birthday and gave the most thoughtful gifts. He valued his many cousins and their children. All of his many many friends will attest that these same qualities carried over to all his other relationships. He was thoughtful, loving, kind and generous, always trying to put the other person first. An illustration of Art's nature was his legendary Christmas parties where he blended his immediate family, his extended family, his work family, and his friends in one big buffet of people. For the family, it was a right of passage to reach the appropriate age to be able to attend Art's Christmas party.

Art will be immensely missed by his family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Curtis O Hicks, his paternal grandfather Glenn E Hicks, his paternal grandmother Idoma Moore and her husband Edwin, and his maternal grandparents Arthur and Edith Bowen. Art is survived by his loving mother Barbara Hicks, sister Edie Hicks, and brother Curtis Hicks, Jr (Debbie), brother Joe Hicks (Jennie), brother Allen Hicks, and sister Tara Drummond, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His family and numerous friends will always carry the loving memory of the indelible light of life that Art shined into their lives which will continue to shine a light to warm everyone's soul and help us through the pain of losing him way too soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Curtis - Susan and I were saddened to learn about the passing of your brother. Although we never met Art, I can discern from his obituary that he enjoyed a wonderful and varied life, even though it was unexpectedly cut short. Our prayers are being offered for your family.

I am sitting a Laguardia Airport stranded by storms and hoping to be back in time tomorrow to celebrate the life of Art Hicks, a great friend and work associate who will be so terribly missed by all he touched.
Art was so great to work with and never hesitated to spend time and educate me ( or any client) on his work. I was lucky enough to have seen him in the past two weeks .
A friend to all, Art never met a stranger.
Art will be deeply missed!

Art is a work of Art! My fondest memory
Is from the Phoenix building. I told him he was ornery. We always found something to laugh about. Everyone should have the happiest life he shared with everyone he knew.

Art, you were such a kind, thoughtful and generous soul. You were always willing to do whatever was needed on our team at Monte Hewett Homes. You were my go-to person that I could rely on to do a presentation, teach a class, stay late, take a tough neighborhood.... you would do it all, with a smile and a wonderful attitude. Thank you for all the wonderful gifts, you were always thinking of others and bringing a smile to my face! Your humor always brightened my day and each of us on the team, we were so lucky to have you. You will be so missed Art. I wish we had won the lottery together as we had planned week and week!

Oh, Art, had i known just last Saturday would have been the last time I spent time with you, I would have selected a much better movie. The movie was so terrible, and yet it was such a gift because I’ll always remember that as our last laugh together and your last admonishment to me. I will always look back on memories of you with a smile and will always remember your gentile, yet snarky humor, overpowering cackle, energy for life, and most of all, your generosity. Be at peace my friend and know that you are loved and missed greatly.
