

Betty Cantley Watson Betty Cantley Watson, born September 13th, 1924 in Pinopolis SC, died peacefully on March 23, 2015. The daughter of Jesse and Tressie Murray Cantley, she is survived by her older sister Mary Cantley Orvin. Betty grew up in Georgetown SC, graduated from Rice Business College in Charleston, and worked for several years at International Paper Company in Georgetown. Her husband of over 56 years, Thomas Edward Watson Jr., Citadel Class of 1942, died in 2006. They lived in Georgetown, North Augusta and Columbia SC with their two sons, Thomas Edward Watson III and David Gordon Watson, and moved to Atlanta in 1962. Through the years, Betty was very involved at Oak Grove Methodist Church and enjoyed working part-time in the gift shop and Post Office at Vista Grove Hardware store. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Tom, playing bridge, watching the Braves and Georgia football, and most of all attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren. In addition to her sister, she is survived by her children, Tom and Mary Watson, Dave and Judy Watson, Jenny and Curt Boren, her grandchildren, Chris Watson, Kelly Watson Cunliffe and Ed Cunliffe, Morgan Watson, Jacy Watson, Andrew Boren and one great grandson, Jack Cunliffe, all of Atlanta. A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, March 26th at Oak Grove Methodist Church with visitation at 10:00 at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA 30033 or a charity of your choice.
