Cary Ann La Rish Scales

Cary Ann Scales, 40, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away Friday, August 15, 2014. From the moment of her birth in Somerville, New Jersey on November 9, 1973, her life was a race well-run. After growing up in Bridgewater, New Jersey, she moved south and graduated from Elon College, North Carolina in 1996. Following graduate work at Emerson College in Boston, her communications career culminated as Senior Director at VMWare. Her race was vibrant and full of joy, and she delighted in her two boys, Dylan and Brody, with whom she shared a passion for travel and outdoor adventure. From hiking with the boys to zip lining in the jungles of Costa Rica, Cary sought new challenges daily. She was training to run the Big Sur International half-marathon when she died. Survivors include her sons Dylan and Brody from her marriage to Brian Scales; her mother and step-father Brenda and Martin Taustein of Southside, Alabama; her father and step-mother, Michael and Linda LaRish of Bound Brook, New Jersey; her brother Michael LaRish of Bound Brook, New Jersey, her sister Lindsay Smith and brother-in-law David of Southside, Alabama, her sister Lorryn LaRish of Bound Brook, New Jersey, and her step-sister Lisa Caton and brother-in-law Paul of Keystone Heights, Florida, and many other extended family members. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, August 18 at H. M. Patterson & Son - Spring Hill, 1020 Spring Street, NW, Atlanta. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19 at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, Atlanta, followed by burial at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:15 PM on Tuesday, August 19 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Neumann, 4844 Oakdale Vinings Landing, Smyrna 30080. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests tribute contributions in memory of Cary Scales to the Lovett School, 4075 Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30327. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.
