Celeste Jabaley Corbett

Celeste was born in Atlanta, GA to Charles Jabaley, Jr. and Evelyn Azar Jabaley on March 16, 1948. She attended Immaculate Conception and Christ The King grammar schools, and went on to graduate from St. Pius X High School. There she participated in cheerleading, track and was on the varsity basketball team all 4 years, and was the only freshman to play 1st string. Celeste credited her older brother, Gerald with what she says were some of the best years of her life. He taught her how to play the sport she loved and spent many hours practicing with her. One of her first jobs was at Bank of America, where her beautiful “John Doe” signature was featured in the television commercial. She worked for over 40 years as bookkeeper in the medical and dental field, as well as a dental assistant, and a school secretary at O’Keefe Middle School, Inman Middle School, and The Galloway School. She worked hard, sometimes holding down two jobs at once to support her family. She was a strong woman who could do almost anything, whether it be painting a house or stunts off of the diving board. For 41 years, Celeste devoted herself to the care of her son Ty, and his special needs. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She took care of them when they were growing up, and treasured every moment. She was so proud of the young adults that they have become.

Celeste was preceded in death by Charles Jabaley, Jr., Evelyn Azar Jabaley, and Charles P. “Little Charles” Jabaley III.

Celeste is survived by her daughter Carol (Todd) Corbett Phillips; son Ty Corbett; brothers Gerald (Peggy) Jabaley and David Jabaley; sister Cheryl Jabaley Brune; grandchildren Mia and Ian Phillips; nephews Eric (Sylvia) Jabaley, Mark (Mari) Jabaley, and Charlie Jabaley; nieces Stacy Brune, Lisa Brune, and Dorothy Jabaley; great-nieces and nephews Layla, Nadia, Laith, Keiss, Etta, Paxton, Lincoln, and Evan.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 4, 2023, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, at H.M. Patterson & Son—Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, Oglethorpe.
