Christine Theriot Woodfin

18 abril, 1946 – 24 marzo, 2026
Obituario de Christine Theriot Woodfin
EN EL CUIDADO DE

H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel

Christie Theriot Woodfin, beloved mother, artist, counselor, and educational consultant, died on March 24, 2026, in Atlanta at the age of 79 after a battle with malignant pleural mesothelioma.

A native of New Orleans, Christie was born to Romeal Theriot and Irene Nunnery Theriot. She attended Isidore Newman School and later Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, where mentors recognized her gifts and helped shape the confident, intellectually curious, and witty woman she became.

After college, she married Richard Henry Woodfin, and together they had two children, Warren Theriot Woodfin and Elizabeth Cutler Woodfin, who were the great loves of her life. In her early adult years, Christie built a life in the arts, creating illustrated stationery, helping lead art seminars, and developing a painting practice centered on large watercolor still lifes that were shown in one-woman exhibitions and collected widely.

She also gave generously to the institutions she loved, serving Agnes Scott in alumnae leadership roles and Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta as an elder on three occasions. After moving to Houston in 1990, Christie returned to school at the University of Houston, earned a master’s degree in counseling, and became a licensed psychological counselor.

She went on to found the educational consulting firm Woodfin and Associates, through which she spent 25 years helping families find schools and programs where children could thrive. She became especially respected for her work with neurodivergent and atypical learners, combining discernment, humor, and fierce advocacy on behalf of the young people and families she served. Her work earned national recognition, including honors from the Independent Educational Consultants Association, of which she was a longtime member.

Christie moved her practice to Atlanta in 2005 and continued helping families nationwide until her illness in 2023. Friends, clients, and fellow parishioners knew her as a gifted conversationalist, a deeply generous person, and someone whose love of New Orleans shaped her hospitality, style, humor, and joy wherever she lived. For ten years, she was a proud member of the Krewe of Muses, creating glittering Mardi Gras shoes that became treasured keepsakes for those who caught them. She was also known for her wit, generosity, faith, and love of art, architecture, music, friendship, spirited conversation, and extravagant hats.

Christie was preceded in death by her siblings Donald Theriot and Joy Theriot David. Christie is survived by her children, Warren Theriot Woodfin and Elizabeth Cutler Woodfin, son-in-law Henry Akona, and by many loving nieces and nephews, friends, former clients, and loved ones. The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers from Full Heart Home Care for all they contributed to the quality of her final months. A memorial service will be held on April 18 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, and there will be a service in New Orleans for local friends and family . In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to World Central Kitchen or to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
