We usually check on each other weekly and get together for lunch. I am so sorry that work has made me miss contacting you sooner.  I just found out today. Thank you for visiting me at the market.

Dear Dave, Leeann, and the rest of the Unson  and Elzinga families, 
We just found out this tragic news - we are in shock. Issa and I were suite mates and almost inseparable during our grad school days at MSU. She taught me “Chismis,” of which she was the queen.  She taught me how to make the best Adobo. We called her “Bug” because she was (relative to me) as small and cute as her VW Beetle.  To this day I think of her every day when I put on my earrings from the beautiful round black leather jewelry box she got me from Lord and Taylor on one of her trips to see her sister in NY.  We stayed connected after all these years (45 or so!) and met when we visited Atlanta or they came up to Michigan. 
I will truly truly miss her. I’m sending big hugs and sincere condolences.

My husband Roy and I, Jeanette Reyes Calleja, extend our sincerest condolences to the Elzinga and Unson families especially to Dave and Leeann.  Issa was like a sister to us in our group of six as we grew up going to the same school and university.  The friendship survived the test of time and distance even as Issa took her Master’s degree and eventually settled down in the USA. Whenever any of us would go to the USA, she and Trisha tried their best to meet up with us to reconnect and build more memories together.  She was very generous, helpful and kind always.  Then we started to travel together every 5 years to celebrate milestone birthdays.  We offer our love and prayers to accompany her in this last journey of her life.  Until we meet again, dear Issa.       

Deep and sincere condolences to Issa's family in Atlanta, in Manila and her "besties" all over. She is loved and missed.

We feel so fortunate to have been able to share so many wonderful moments with Issa, Dave and Leeann: from the ski trips, visits to Texas, Winter Park, Atlanta, Hilton Head, and lastly April in Lyon.  Our friendship that was forged in Michigan State University and as couples starting our married lives in Chicago in the 80's has withstood the decades and distances.
We're so grateful for Dave & Issa's warm generosity as frequent hosts.  Issa's presence will be missed.  To her we wish peace and to Dave and Leeann strength and comfort for the months ahead.  

Condolences to the Unson and Elzinga families. Prayers for the eternal repose of Issa.  We have fond memories of her and will miss her.

The news of her passing away was a total shock as it was no more than 2 weeks ago that I was just speaking to Issa.   We spoke about her work with the census and how she didn't mind the rejection some people would have towards her questioning.  
Issa was like my older sister I did not have when I first met her at Michigan State University.  As it was my initial indoctrination to American life, she gave me pointers on how to avoid typical Filipino 'from the province' behavior.  I must say, she was a good teacher as I quickly learned the ropes.  
She will always be in my prayers so that she gets to the banquet of the Lord as quickly as possible.   Her distinct laughter will be missed.  May her soul rest in peace.  Amen.
