August 29, 2021, in Gainesville, GA.
Randy was born in Columbus, OH to Jackie and Dave Brunson on August 10, 1953.
He graduated from Mercer University in Macon, GA. He was truly a modern day
“Renaissance Man” with multiple interests and expertise in a variety of areas.
Architect/Contractor, Performer/Lyricist, Restaurateur/Chef, Pilot, Captain – always
leaving one adventure to head to the next. He reinvented himself and his life at the
speed of a comet that burned out too soon, leaving those who knew and loved him
to marvel at the brightness of his light. To define Randy is simply impossible. His
most amazing creations and dreams were mixed with some of the worst luck or
timing, but he never stopped moving forward. No one could characterize Randy’s
ideas as “get rich quick” schemes, because every idea he pursued featured himself at
the center, working extremely hard. He lived fearlessly, and as large as the
outdoors, but recently had come to embrace the quiet times, with his friends, family,
music, wine and beloved cats.
In addition to renovating and building homes for years, Randy was a brilliant
singer/songwriter who practiced a unique style in his guitar using 2 capos. His finger
picking produced a sound that blended with his strong voice. He worked at his craft
while living in Nashville and rubbed elbows with literally all the great songwriters of
that time. He hosted numerous young performers at the beautiful home he built in
Columbia, TN, helping them get their start, and his generosity was unequaled. He
had a passion for promoting the music of lesser known performers and had even
begun to perform again. He was looking forward to a future in Florida involving a
sailboat, a food truck and music with his friends.
Randy is survived by his sister Pam (Carey), his brother Andy (Mie), 6 nephews and
their families. The art he built and created will live on in the hearts of his family and
friends who he loved fiercely. He was a gentle, loyal soul, and will be terribly missed.
A memorial service will be held at a time and place still to be determined.
