
David Burrell Herndon, 62, of Atlanta Georgia, passed away on June 15, 2011 in Palm Coast Florida. He was born May 21, 1949, in Owensboro Kentucky. He graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky in 1971 with a BA in Mathematics, where he was the President of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and the President of the U.K. Student Center Board. He received his MBA from the University of Louisville in 1977. He worked for South Central Bell and Bellsouth in Birmingham, AL, and eventually became the Director of Network Planning at AT&T in Atlanta. He worked for AT&T companies for 40 years, including the launch of Optus in Australia in 1992.
David was an avid boater and was a Past Commander of the Atlanta Sail and Power Squadron where he was an instructor in boating safety and weather classes and edited the Waterlog newsletter for seven years. He was a governor of the University Yacht Club in Atlanta, Georgia and the editor of the Beacon newsletter. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Atlanta and played guitar for the Christian Expresso praise team for nine years. He was a member of the University of Kentucky alumni association.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Parsons Herndon of Atlanta, Georgia, his daughters Laura Cathleen Herndon and Sarah Blair Herndon of Asheville, NC, his mother, Jane Herndon and his brother Tom Herndon of Livermore, KY, and his sister Marsha Herndon Purcell of Churchton, MD. His nieces and nephews are Ryan Herndon Purcell, Lindsay Parsons, James Parsons, Kenneth and Liz Parsons, and Michael Parsons.
Visitation and viewing is at HM Patterson & Sons Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, 30319, 404-261-3510, Saturday, June 18th, 6- 9 p.m. The memorial service will be Sunday, June 19th, 4 o’clock at University Yacht Club, Bulloch Chapel, Lake Lanier, 6649 Yacht Club Road, Flowery Branch, GA 30542 with a reception to follow. Please carpool due to limited parking and prepare for an outdoor service. A second memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 21st, at Muster Funeral Home, 212 Broadway, Livermore, KY with 9:30 a.m. visitation, followed by service at 11 a.m.
