Dr. John Richard Steele, born on February 9, 1944, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was the beloved son of Dorothy Steele and Dr. Willard H. Steele, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and family patriarch whose life was defined by love, service, and an unwavering commitment to those who came after him.
A physician by calling and by character, Dr. Steele dedicated his life to caring for others. Whether in his professional work as a neuroradiologist or in his personal life, he was guided by compassion, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility. He believed strongly in building a foundation that would support future generations, and everything he did reflected that purpose.
He shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Diane, who stood beside him as his partner, confidante, and greatest supporter. Together they built a life centered on family and love.
Above all else, he was a family man. He leaves behind two cherished daughters: Brooke Powell and her husband Jeremy, along with their daughter Amelia; and Hillary Britt and her husband Travis, with their four daughters—Sutton, Ansley, Adalyn, and Tessa. He took great pride in watching his family grow and was happiest when surrounded by them, offering wisdom, encouragement, and steady love.
He is also survived by his sister, Barbara, husband Leon, Leake and his brother, Dr. Robert Steele and spouse Caren.
Dr. Steele will be remembered as a wonderful man whose entire life was spent making sure he prepared the way for the generations he would one day leave behind. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the values he instilled.
