Edward Reid Hunter

31 diciembre, 1931 – 4 diciembre, 2025
Obituario de Edward Reid Hunter
EN EL CUIDADO DE

H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel

Edward Reid Hunter, age 93, passed away on December 4, 2025. Reid was born at home in Charlotte, NC to Eva Kathryn House Hunter & Jesse Thomas Hunter. He was raised alongside his siblings – three brothers and one sister – on 5th St. in the Elizabeth neighborhood near Presbyterian Hospital.

He graduated from Central High School in 1950 and enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed in Berlin and served as a clerk.

After Berlin, Reid entered UNC at Chapel Hill in 1954, where he received a BA degree in Economics. He also was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. After graduating, Reid accepted a job at Airco – a large industrial-gas manufacturer – in Charlotte.

In 1957, Reid met his future bride – Martha Anne Little, also of Charlotte – on a blind date. They were married on September 6th, 1958 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. They happily welcomed a son and daughter – Edward and Katy – while living in Charlotte and Greensboro, NC.

The family moved to Atlanta in 1967. Reid began Welding Products of Georgia there and grew it into a thriving business.

After selling that business in 1980 and buying another (which he sold in the early 1990’s), Reid & Martha retired to Sea Island, GA.

Reid met all of his retirement-era endeavors with gusto. He and Martha loved golf, tennis, traveling, and especially spending time with family & friends. They spent his last eight years at Lenbrook in Brookhaven, where he relished his remaining days.

Reid is survived by his wife Martha Little Hunter, his son Edward Hunter Jr of Athens, GA, his daughter Katy Hunter Asip (John) of Dunwoody, GA, his grandchildren: Sarah Asip, Hunter Asip (Emily), Dan Asip (Gianna), Willis Hunter and his great-granddaughter, Frances Martha Asip. He is also survived by his younger brother David Hunter (Sue) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service plans are still pending.
