

Mrs. Elizabeth Mann Due, Church Leader and Native Atlantan died Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Mrs. Due was born in Atlanta March 27, 1917. She attended Ella W. Smillie and Tenth Street Elementary Schools, O’Keefe Junior High, and graduated from Girl’s High in 1934. She married the late Homer H. Due of St. Louis, Missouri in 1942 and with her husband sang in the choir of First Baptist Church, where they were married. In 1948, they moved their membership to Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church (SPdL) where they both served actively for many years. Mrs. Due was a soloist in the Double Quartet for thirteen years and then a member of the Sanctuary Choir with her husband until 1985. During the War years, she served with the USO at the old Terminal Station and worked with the Red Cross. She served on the Staff of First Baptist church for three years ntil 1946 when their first son was born. She was President of Epsilon and Xi Alpha Chapters of Beta Sigma Phi, International Cultural Society, Sponsor for Lambda Chapter and President of the Atlanta Council of Beta Sigma Phi. She and her late husband were twice Co-Presidents of Liberty Guinn PTA. She was awarded Life Membership in Georgia Congress of Parents and Teachers in 1963. She was President of Fulton County Council of PTAS and served on the Study Commission of the Fulton County Board of Education 1963-64. She was Chaplain of Franklinia Garden Club, former member of Sandy Springs Woman’s Club, Atlanta Music Club and Peachtree Road WCTU. In her earlier years, she was a member of Young Artists. She was a Charter Member of High Museum of Art and Atlanta Historical Society. Active in her church she was twice President of Fidelis Sunday School Class, President of Baptist Women, Director of Woman’s Missionary Union. She was on the Staff of SPdL from 1965 until 2002, serving as General Secretary, Assistant Financial Secretary, and Wedding Coordinator. She was an Ordained Deacon and a Life Deacon. Her husband preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by her two sons: Homer H. Due, Jr. of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and John Madison Due of Atlanta; along with several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and one great-great nephew. Funeral services will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Saturday, November 9 at 11 o’clock with interment at Westview Cemetery.
