Libba was born December 4, 1942 to the late Frank Ward Holt III and Julia Dancy Hoyt Holt. She was a 1960 graduate of Northside High School. After a year at the University of Alabama, Libba transferred to the University of Georgia where she was a member of Chi Omega and an avid Bulldog fan, graduating in 1964. Libba was also a member of The Atlanta Debutante Club and The Piedmont Driving Club.
A passionate gardener, Libba worked tirelessly to create beauty there. Her personal garden was a glorious creation, included on many tours and in several publications.
But Libba's life is best measured by her investment in family and friends. Stories of her quiet, selfless generosity and love for others can be told by many. The letters, emails, calls and prayers throughout her courageous struggle did much to support and sustain her and are evidence of the love so many had for her.
She cared deeply about local causes and was a generous supporter of The Shepherd Spinal Center And Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Libba had three sisters, Dee Holt George (Ross) Judy Holt Merkle, and Fran Holt Lanier who predeceased her. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, John Reese Lanier, Jr. (Ruth), Thomas Howell Lanier (Molly), Yancey Lanier McCollum (John), Vincent Brooks Merkle (Paige), and Julia Dancy as well as eleven great nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.
Among her closest friends, Libba was affectionately referred to as "The Queen". The family extends its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to The Queen's "Royal Guard", her devoted friend, William Koss.
Libba was also thankful for the kind, compassionate care provided her by care givers from McClinton Cares, Jacqui McClinton, Lisa Hood, Anaya Parris, Melissa Smith and Joan Downer.
A celebration of Libba's life will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 2:00p.m. at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Drive, NW, Dr. G. Gil Watson officiating. Interment immediately following the service will take place at Arlington Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Libba's memory should be made to: The ALS Association Georgia Chapter, 1955 Cliff Valley Way, NE, Suite 116, Atlanta, GA 30329. Online condolences may be made at hmpattersonspringhill.com.
