Ernest Bela Hidvegi was born in Budapest, Hungary September 24, 1925 and passed away September 8, 2012. Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather. Ernest was a remarkable man who overcame tremendous obstacles. After surviving WWII in eastern Europe, he successfully escaped Budapest during the height of the Soviet invasion in 1956. Ernest lived in many countries, practicing orthopaedic surgery in Jakarta and Brazil for the international Red Cross until he came to the United States, having been offered a position at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. Ernest practiced medicine in Illinois, New York, Virginia, and Ohio, where he completed his career as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland. Ernest published many medical papers and taught medicine throughout his career. Always gentle, loving and kind, Ernest was grateful to find peace and happiness in his later years with his wife Elia. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Elia Padilla Hidvegi, his two daughters, three grandchildren and his wonderful extended family in Atlanta. Mason, Kendall, Reese, Mariana, Santiago, Andrea, Diego and Victor Marcelo will likely remember little of Grandpa Ernest as they grow up, because they are so young, but the impression that his intelligence and quiet warmth left behind will be with them always. Ernest, Daddy, Baby, We are all so heartbroken that you are gone but you will be in our hearts and minds forever. You have impressed upon us all great life lessons and we love you. A memorial service will be held Saturday September 15, 2012 at 10am at The Catholic Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30305.
