Frederick G. (Rock) Overrocker, III died on Monday, August 9, 2010, after a faith-filled battle with Melanoma. Rock charged into the world on July 14, 1953 and has lived life in fast forward ever since. The only son of F.G. and Marie B. Overrocker, Jr. he graduated from W.H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam, NY. His real education began at age 12 when he started fixing VWs at Al’s Garage in Fort Johnson, NY. Rock’s determination to become a successful, self-made man began then. His path to this goal has been a varied and interesting one. He has been a Sheriff’s Deputy, EMT, electrician, historical renovator, gravedigger, caterer and fireman. Rock served the Fort Johnson NY Fire Dept. for over 23 years, several as chief. He has always excelled most in the building trades. When he moved to Atlanta in 1996, he founded Overrocker Construction and Demolition, which he has proudly operated with his sons, Justin and Jerrod. In 1989, Rock became a friend of Bill W’s and celebrated 20 years of Sobriety last November. Fifteen years ago, he met his soul-mate and best-friend, Christine Chenette, and they were married on the beach in Seaside, FL, in 2000. Rock’s proudest accomplishment has been seeing his beloved children grow into adulthood; two daughters: Rosalynne A. White, husband Richard and daughter Madison; Lt. Joy L. Harry, husband SFC Anthony (Both US Army) and son, Jason; two sons: Justin J. Overrocker; Jerrod S. Overrocker, wife Julie, and son Zach Gourdine. He is also survived by his loving sister, Janis, and adoring niece, Lindsay; mother-in-law, Joan Chenette; and Christine’s brothers and their families. Rock also leaves behind numerous friends, too many to mention in their entirety. A certain few will miss him daily: Jimmy, Debbie, Harry, Patty, Betty, Deborah, his cousins in NY as well as his spiritual advisor, Ms. Evelyn. His tragically spoiled four-legged children: Brazen, Miss Saigon and Titus will furnish comfort to us all. Rock’s wish was to be cremated. A memorial service and reception will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church on Sunday, the fifteenth of August at two o’clock in the afternoon, 635 W. Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. If you wish to honor Rock’s memory, please consider Covenant Community, a men’s residential recovery community, located at 623 Spring St NW, Atlanta, GA 30308, c/o Sarah Ford; or The Master’s Place, a spiritual recovery mission, located at 3349 Old Dixie Hwy, Dalton, GA 30721, c/o Evelyn Ellis. The family wishes to thank Drs. David Lawson and Ian Crocker of Emory Winship and Dr. James Hammrick of Kaiser and their staffs both for the aggressive treatment of his disease and the warm compassion of their hearts.
