George D. White

Patriot, military hero, distinguished financial services expert and community and cultural patron, George D. White died on September 21 at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his parents Helena Beier de White and George H. White and his wife Joan Dobbs White.

A native of Miami, Florida George White graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1964. He attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and graduated in 1968. He then entered and served with honors in the United States Marine Corps and went through Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. He served as First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps from 1969-1971 in Vietnam. He then entered the financial services field working for Sun Trust Bank, Merrill Lynch, and Solomon Brothers, becoming one of the highest ranked experts there. Following his retirement from that firm he pursued private investment interests.

George was a benefactor of the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta History Center, the Michael C. Carlos Museum of Art and Archeology as well as many other Atlanta cultural institutions. He was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club, the Capital City Club and the Sea Island Club. He was a parishioner of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his beloved son Reynolds Dobbs White as well as his step-son Christopher Wooster, his wife Eva and daughter Violet and his very special caregiver Mozelle Frazier. Also sister-in-law Ruth Dobbs Anthony and husband Tom Anthony, sister-in-law Nancy Dobbs and brother-in-law Talmage Dobbs III, as well as nine nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 27 at 2:00 PM at the Dobbs Chapel at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Following the memorial the family will receive friends at the home of Ruth and Tom Anthony.
