Childhood summers were spent with their boy cousins, boating at the lake or hanging out at the pond, with lots of sweet tea and barbecue. Holidays included go-kart adventures, unexpected dips in the creek and time with extended family. Active in the Girls Scouts in grade school and later “Odyssey of the Mind” Hollie was an excellent student and an honor graduate from Berkmar High School.
In 1992, Hollie entered college at Emory University. She majored in history and in her free time, was active “behind the scenes” in theater, stage managing several productions. It was at Emory that Hollie made several enduring friendships, including a group of girls who would eventually commemorate their friendship with an acronym (SHERT). She graduated in 1996 and began her career in the exhibit industry.
Hollie met her future husband Vince in 2003 and they instantly connected over the fact that they shared the same birthday. They had a mutual love of sports and travel and the ability to make each other laugh in a way that no one else could. They married in 2006 and welcomed a daughter, Josie, in 2008. They eventually settled in the Oak Grove neighborhood of Decatur. Together they hosted dinners and parties (like “Hog Heaven”), taught Sunday School, and had memorable travels, from Hawaii to Disney World to the Kentucky Derby. Hollie and Vince’s enduring love for each other and for Josie was always rooted in faith and a strong commitment to family.
Hollie was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. From Vacation Bible School to the Board of Stewards, she volunteered for and led countless committees, including the YCS council, the consignment sale and the meal team. She made even more close friends through Sunday school, baby celebrations and children’s ministry. Outside of church, she served as President of the Oak Grove Elementary PTA and volunteered several years with Jerry’s Habima theater, an inclusive theater company featuring actors with disabilities.
Hollie’s passion for her friends, her family and her faith were reflected in her selfless dedication to helping others. Whether you needed a spreadsheet, a casserole or just someone to listen, Hollie was supportive, thoughtful and empathetic. She was very social and enjoyed travel, dining out, and a good pun. She loved theater, reading, and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. She made spending quality time with friends a priority, whether catching up over brunch or planning the annual Girls’ Weekend. She stayed in touch with friends near and far, often calling just to say hello or to share some helpful information she found related to some random thing you mentioned weeks ago. She was calm but opinionated, with a quick, dry wit. Although she often kept her emotions under control, when expressed you knew that she felt deeply, and loved deeply.
Hollie passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2022, due to natural causes. She is survived by her husband Vince Meglio; their daughter, Josephine (Josie) Meglio; a sister, Christie Allen (Bill) of Murfreesboro, TN; her father, David Van Landingham of Snellville; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, a great-niece and many friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Kathie Van Landingham and her grandparents.
