

Hope Joffrion McCollam, age 96, died peacefully on November 28, 2024, in her apartment at the Canterbury Court Senior Living Community, Atlanta, Georgia. Hope was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, the daughter of Hope Flower Joffrion and Alphonse Bush Joffrion.
Hope spent her early years growing up in Alexandria, Louisiana, among a close-knit extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended school in Alexandria until her senior year of high school when she enrolled at All Saints School in Vicksburg, Virginia, and later entered college at Sullins in Bristol, Virginia.
Her oldest brother, Wilbur, introduced Hope to her future husband, his roommate and classmate at West Point Academy, when she was nineteen years old, a meeting which changed the course of her life. One year later, she married William McCollam, Jr, from Houma Louisiana, and married life and motherhood began.
After her marriage, Hope spent fifteen years as a military wife, stationed stateside and overseas. Her fondest years were spent in Washington, D.C. where Hope and Bill lived for 25 years while traveling the world for corporate purposes. She enjoyed her role as a docent at the Corcoran Gallery and the Phillip’s Collection in Washington, D.C., Eventually, Hope and Bill returned to New Orleans, LA, after Bill’s retirement, returning to their roots and their families.
She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, New Orleans, Louisiana. She was also very active in the Colonial Dames, serving on the leadership boards and hosting many events.
She and her husband moved to Canterbury Court, an active Episcopal retirement community in Atlanta, Georgia in 2016, to be closer to her son, Stephen, and his family, who lived a few miles away.
In Atlanta, Hope was once again surrounded by loving family with whom she shared visits, meals, holidays and special occasions, along with several kind caregivers who provided daily support and attended to her needs
Hope died peacefully Thanksgiving Day, a day to thank God for those whom we love. She is predeceased by her husband and both brothers, Wilbur Joffrion and Bush David Joffrion.
She is survived by her children, The Rev. Ellendale McCollam Hoffman married to the Rev. Charles Lance Hoffman of Old Saybrook, CT, William Cage McCollam of Galveston, TX, and Dr. Stephen Mason McCollam married to Kimberly Schlundt McCollam of Atlanta, GA.
Hope is also survived by her five grandchildren Alexandra McCollam Hoffman, Charles Mason Hoffman, Grace Marie McCollam, Clara Elise McCollam and Ellen Mason McCollam, along with two step granddaughters, Elizabeth Hoffman Francis and Jennifer Hoffman-Jonas and their children, Rachel and Charlotte Hezog, Maya, Emma and Owen Jonas.
A Memorial Service in Atlanta will be held at Canterbury Court on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 4:00 PM in the chapel, with a reception to follow.
In New Orleans, a Memorial Service will take place at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by the interment of ashes at the family plot at Lake Lawn Cemetery in Metairie. A visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 AM at the church, prior to the service.
