Hugh George Hayes

Hugh George Hayes, age 83, of Smyrna went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, August 27, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Atlanta to Pearl Elizabeth (Surrett) and Atticus Belk Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a retired Area Manager with Lucent Technologies, a career spanning 34 years with the same company, Western Electric which eventually merged with AT & T and Lucent Technologies. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and always enjoyed being outside. He was also a member of the Pioneers Retirement Club. A loving husband, father, grandfather, friend to many, and fervent supporter of the underdog, he will be greatly missed. Mr. Hayes is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Hayes; and sister, Marjorie Drummond. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Martha Ann (Martin) Hayes; his daughters, Donna Hayes of Marietta, and Debbie and Geoff Hamil of Tallahassee, Florida; grandsons, Grant Hamil and Parker Hamil; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2015, at 1:30 o’clock at Patterson’s Spring Hill. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
