

Imogene Walker (Mrs. J.A.), of Atlanta, died May 3, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Allison Walker and survived by her daughters, Grace Walker and Ruth Walker Flake, grandchildren, Jamie and James Flake, several cousins. A member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church and the TLC Sunday School class, she leaves a legacy of Christian faith, hard work, education, love and family devotion. Mrs. Walker was an Alumnae of North Georgia College, University of Georgia and Georgia State University. She taught over 40 years in the Atlanta Public School System and was chairman of the English Department at North Fulton High School. Interested in helping beginning teachers, she supervised student teachers from Emory University, Agnes Scott College, Georgia State University and the University of Georgia. She was a member of the National Education Association and the American Association of Retired Persons, Order of the Eastern Star, Takoma Chapter 12, Washington D.C. . She traveled widely; Europe, Scotland, Hawaii; The Holy Land, Journeys of Paul and U.S. She was born in Dahlonega, Georgia to the late Maude Free Christian Walker and the late William Dennis Walker. She was the sixth of their teacher children, but none survive her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wieuca Road Baptist Church, 3626 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30326. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8th at 2 o’clock at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30319.
