
James Beaupré Dodd, 83, of Atlanta, passed away Monday, September 20, 2010. He was born September 21, 1926 in Eldorado, Illinois to T. Leo and Harris Dodd. Jim received a Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree in English from Southern Illinois University and a Masters’ degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois. He was married to Betty Georgene Barcroft on September 1, 1947. They later moved to Atlanta where Jim joined the faculty at Georgia Tech in 1967 from which he retired in 1997 after 30 years. Jim was very active in the Special Libraries Association and served as National President from 1980-1981. For many years, he volunteered with Public Broadcasting Atlanta in support of WABE National Public Radio.
He was preceded in death by his parents along with wife, Betty; brother, Tom; and sister, Louise. Jim is survived by his son, Jim, and his wife, Ann, and their children: James and Katherine; as well as his’s sisters: Carla Jean (Marshall) Mollet and Martha Sue Grant.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Monday, the twenty-seventh of September at ten o’clock in the morning at Trinity Presbyterian Church in the Dobbs’ Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to Public Broadcasting Atlanta, 740 Bismark Rd, NE, Atlanta, GA 30324.
