

Jim was born in Mayfield, Kentucky to James and Jane Gilmer on May 3, 1954.
He graduated from the University of Georgia, where he participated in the gymnastics program, and remained a diehard fan of the “Dawgs” all through the years. He married the love of his life, Lia, in Atlanta on October 7, 1995. They traveled the world and experienced many memorable adventures. Jim was an avid golfer who always said that he would play on any day ending in Y! He was the ultimate handyman always helping family and friends. Those who knew him will forever remember his sharp wit and kind heart.
Jim was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he volunteered in outreach ministries and the Atlanta Greek Festival. He was also a member of the Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) for many years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret B. Gilmer. He is survived by his loving wife Lia, his sister Nan Long (Mac), sons Jamie (Becca), Rob (Shanna), Billy and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill (4550 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30319).
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Atlanta with Reverend Father Paul A. Kaplanis, Dean, and Reverend Father Christos P. Mars, Protopresbyter, officiating.
