Ralph Douglas “Joe” Honour, a native Atlantan, passed away at his home on Friday, May 13, 2011. He was born in Atlanta on August 15, 1957. Joe graduated from St. Pius X High School and attended the University of Georgia; he was an avid Bulldog and Braves fan.
Joe was predeceased by his father, Richard Honour; brother, Pat Honour; and grandparents: Doug and Florence Goldsmith and Ralph and Miriam Woodall. He is survived by his mother, Susan Woodall Honour Fuller of Kennesaw; brother, Richard (Kathryn) Honour of Acworth; sisters: Lynn (Charles) Phillips and Carol (Jeff) Estep all of Marietta; nieces and nephews: Jeffrey (Caitlin) Phillips, Joseph Honour, Lauren Phillips, John Honour, Kelli Estep, and Jae Estep; as well as aunts and cousins. Joe will be missed by his family and many longtime friends, including Barbara Dinkins. A special thanks to Joe’s extended family, the Langstons and the Clacks, for their love and support.
Joe was a walking history book of Atlanta. He knew every business that had ever been on every corner. He knew Atlanta sports history, from Mack Jones to Chipper Jones, Ernie Wheelwright to Tree Rollins. He wore many hats – Leroy legal maven, Joe Pair for Austin, Carlton, Walker, Leela and Addie, landscape extraordinaire, #1 wingman for countless friends, and lover of family. In a world full of changes, Joe was a rock that never wavered. Joe was a gentle soul with a heart bigger than the biggest sundae ever made at Zesto’s.
A memorial service will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill on Friday, the twentieth of May at eleven o’clock in the morning. The family will receive friends one hour prior. A celebration of Joe’s life will follow the service at Johnny’s Hideaway.
