

MOBLEY, John, II JOHN H. MOBLEY, II John H. Mobley, II passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010. He was born on April 21, 1930 in Shreveport, La., the son of John Hinson Mobley and Beulah Wilson Mobley. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 31 at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church, Atlanta, GA, followed by a reception in Ellis Hall. John was a graduate of the University of Georgia, as well as the University of Georgia School of Law. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, Blue Key, Gridiron Society, president of Phi Kappa Literary Society, and the recipient of the Distinguished Service Scroll of the University of Georgia Law School. He was a Captain in the JAG Corps of the U.S. Air Force. John was the founding chairman of Communities in Schools of Georgia as well as a member of the National Board of Directors of Communities in Schools, Inc. A former partner at Kelley & Mobley, as well as Gambrell & Mobley, John was a partner at Sutherland, Asbill, & Brennan and practiced in the area of Public Finance. He served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern District of the Securities Industry Association. He was a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Atlanta Bar Association, American Bar Association, and District of Columbia Bar Association. John was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club, New York Athletic Club, Metropolitan Club of Washington, D.C., Old Warhorse Lawyers Club, and Buckhead Lions Club. John was an active participant in church affairs and charitable organizations. He served on the Board of Councilors at the Carter Center and was formerly a member of the Emory University Board of Visitors. At All Saints' Episcopal Church, John served as a lector, on the Vestry, and as Senior Warden. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the Episcopal Endowment Fund of the Diocese of Atlanta. He was Trustee Emeritus of Canterbury Court. John was predeceased by his son, John Lawton Mobley. He is survived by his wife, Sue Lawton Mobley, daughter Anne Mobley Hassett and her husband Stephen David Hassett, granddaughters Sarah Mobley Hassett and Charlotte Lawton Hassett, sister JoAnn Mobley Overstreet, sister-in-law Ann Lawton Pearce and brother-in-law E. Fay Pearce, Jr., and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Percy Sichalwe, Mary Nell Martin, and the staff at Canterbury Court for their caring and support.
