John was born in Katy, TX, to Russell and Marion Hankins in September. He went to school in Katy, and he attended the University of Houston. He met Robyn Smith in 2012, and they later moved to Atlanta in 2014 before marrying in 2016. He was a very skilled contractor who owned his own business for many years in Houston, TX, where he had a passion for creating beautiful, handcrafted environments. He was especially talented with carpentry, wallpaper, and landscaping.
John loved many things and had a whimsical sense of humor and lust for life. He appreciated cryptid television shows and often dreamed of catching Bigfoot or Sasquatch. In his youth, he went duck hunting with family and friends, and though he no longer hunted later in life, he continued to enjoy birdwatching. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of every duck, goose, and feathered friend. In fact, John was amazing with animals in general, and helped raise many pets. His tending to fauna and flora, combined with his acumen in construction, resulted in a multi-year project of fabricating a gorgeous, lush, backyard paradise. His loved ones will continue to treasure his presence, which radiates from all the special details he put into his creations.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Marion, and his father, Russell.
John is survived by his wife, Robyn Smith, his brother, Russell Hankins, his sister, Vicki Hankins, his stepdaughter, Kendall DeBoer, his nephews, Heath and James, and his extended family.
The family and friends of John Hankins wish to extend our sincere thanks to all of those who have supported us through this difficult time, and to all of those who helped make John’s life so full of vibrancy and joy.
