Andy was born on January 26, 1942 at Emory University Hospital. He attended Avondale High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology before joining the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, he completed his Bachelor's degree at Southern Polytechnic State University. In his professional life, he was an engineer and manager for Western Electric, Georgia Power, and The Southern Company, specializing in telecommunications.
Andy and Emily Bane Moon met on a blind date in 1970 and married soon after on March 27, 1971. As a youth, Andy sang with the Atlanta Boy Choir, which translated to a lifelong passion for music, singing in many church choirs including St. James Chancel Choir. Andy loved sailing, birdwatching, anything Scottish (designing the original and registered Moon Family Tartan), and westerns, especially Roy Rogers. Andy and Emily loved to travel. Above all, Andy was devoted to his family.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde W. and Ann S. Moon. He is survived by his wife Emily; his son Jonathan Lloyd (Adriana) Moon and daughter Mary Elizabeth (Abraham) Moon-Burgess; his sister Ann (Tom) Folk; and his grandchildren Cecilia Elizabeth Moon and Eila Moon Burgess.
