

Mrs. James Malcolm Sibley, nee Karen Mariea Norris, was born in Charleston, South Carolina on January 27, 1922. She died Sunday, August 3 at home. Karen was expelled from kindergarten but later showed promise for the future as valedictorian of the seventh grade and leader of her Campfire Girls Troup. She attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia and was married at St. Philip Cathedral in 1942 to James M. Sibley of Atlanta, a pilot in the United States Air Corps.
Mrs. Sibley served as president or chairman of the Mimosa Garden Club, the A. G. Rhodes Home, Families First, Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates (C.A.S.A) for abused and neglected children, and a long time Board member of the Michael C. Carlos Museum. In addition, Mrs. Sibley was a member of the National Commission for Foster Care in the United States and a board member of the Child Welfare Society of America.
Surviving Karen are her husband, five children, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her family and friends, Karen loved Greece, ancient history and flowers.
