Kathie S. Dalton, 64, of Atlanta, passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2015. Kathie grew up in Jackson County, Georgia and spent her adult-life in Atlanta. She attended North Georgia Technical College (Clarksville) and majored in business. A special events planner for 30 years, Kathie recently embarked on a promising acting and improvisational comedy career and was proudly represented by The Burns Agency. She began studying acting at The Alliance Theatre of the Woodruff Arts Center and continued her studies at the Nick Conti Professional Actors Studio, uncovering a love for improvisation. Kathie worked on two improvisation teams, Creative Witticism and Playing in Traffic, and shared her humor, talents, and lively personality with audiences on a regular basis. Kathie was known for being quite the southern belle actor who was not only feisty but also compassionate and generous. She gave hugs to fellow cast and crew prior to any performance and celebrated with friends and audience members afterwards, typically with a cocktail in hand at her favorite local Midtown pub, The Highlander. Although Kathie enjoyed dabbling in improv comedy shows and independent film projects such as acting in an HBO Project Greenlight submission When One Door Opens, she was thrilled to be cast as Henrietta Brancato in South of Hell debuting on WEtv later this year or early 2016.
Kathie never met a stranger and interacted with everyone as though they were part of her family. Her darlin’ references were as genuine as her smiles and infectious laughter, as were her words of encouragement and appreciation. And, Kathie certainly lived her motto: “Do right. Fear not.” She would do anything for anyone and lived without fear, enjoying and celebrating every opportunity that came along.
Friends and family are invited to drop-in on Sunday, August 9, 2015 (1:00 – 3:00 p.m.) at Kathie’s all-time favorite pub The Highlander (931 Monroe Drive NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 – located behind Trader Joe’s & next to Landmark Art Cinema in Midtown). In true Kathie tradition and style, friends and family are invited to walk the red carpet, raise a glass, and share stories about this amazing woman and dear friend.
Donations to The Alliance Theatre Education Program of the Woodruff Arts Cinema, where Kathie first began her journey in acting and was discovered by The Burns Agency, can be made via their online system (http://alliancetheatre.org/content/individual-giving) or over the phone (404-733-4698). Donations will support children in taking acting classes, seeing live theatre, etc.
Kathie is survived by her beloved Yorkie, Tallulah Belle, and loving friends, colleagues, and family. Kathie is preceded in death by her cherished parents, Leonard and Edna Dalton, and brother, Bradley Dalton. (H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill)
