

Margaret Jean Culver passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at the age of ninety. Jean was born September 20, 1920 in Gastonia, North Carolina, the daughter of Jasper C. and Wilma McCall Norwood. Jean received her nursing training at Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Charlotte, North Carolina, and entered military service as a 2nd Lt. in October, 1942, at the age of twenty-two. Stationed in India, Jean served two years in the Asian Pacific Theater. Following the war, Jean served thirty five years in the Active Reserve of the United States Army. Upon retirement as a Colonel in September, 1980, Jean was the recipient of The Meritorious Service Medal. Throughout those years, Jean continued her nursing career at the Atlanta Veterans' Hospital where she held various nursing administrative positions. Jean was a sports enthusiast and was known to watch two sports events simultaneously. She particularly loved the Atlanta Braves. Jean loved the birds and delighted in feeding and watching them. Jean is survived by three generations of loving friends and neighbors from Arden Way NE where she resided for more than fifty years. She is also survived by her dear friends and loving caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living in Buckhead where she had been a resident for the past four and a half years. She loved and nurtured all her friends and will be deeply missed by them. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs, Saturday, April 16, at 11AM. A memorial service will follow Saturday afternoon at 2:30PM at Sunrise Assisted Living, Buckhead.
