Marianne S. Townsend, 85, died at her home in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, January 3, 2013. Born in Ziegenhain, Germany, she met her husband Don Townsend, of Winona, Mississippi, while she was working as a translator for the U.S. military occupation court system after World War II. She came to the United States with him in 1949 and they made their home in Atlanta until his death in 1989. For the last 20 years she lived in Washington, bringing joy and love every day to her family there. She is survived by her daughter Claudia Townsend, son-in-law Paul West and grandchildren Max, Sam and Abby West, as well as nieces and nephews in Germany and Mississippi. Graveside services and burial will be at Arlington Memorial Park at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, January 9, in Georgia. H.M. Patterson and Son Oglethorpe Hill is serving the family.
