OBITUARIO

Mark W. Elliott

9 marzo , 196312 junio , 2021

Mark W. Elliott, age 58 of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021.

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mark met the love of his life, Lorri K. Elliott, in high school 42 years ago. They married on December 10, 1982. As a young kid growing up in Indianapolis, Mark passionately followed IndyCar and basketball, and over his life grew to love and follow the PGA and Formula One, but the Word and its proclamation was his greatest devotion. His love for God permeated every fiber of his being.

During Mark's first year of brokerage, he fell in love with the lodging sector and joined Hodges Ward Associates in 1983. He later became a partner with Bill Hodges and Jack Ward, forming Hodges Ward Elliott in 1992. Mark would serve as the strategic leader of the firm's various business lines for nearly forty years and be regarded as one of the most highly decorated leaders in the hotel industry, selling more hotels than any other individual in the United States.

Mark had a genuine interest in every person he met and would go to lengths to ensure he could find common ground with anyone he encountered. He was curious about others. Relationships undeniably propelled every purpose. He had a deep appreciation for beauty, art, and literature. Still, nothing lit up his face more than speaking of his wife and children. He reveled in sharing a funny quip or a theological thought from his beloved wife or a song from his daughter or about a recent golf game with his son. Above all else, Mark loved to discuss his love for God. Mark conducted himself every day with integrity and a competitive spirit that inspired everyone he worked with. Beyond his professional accomplishments, his intelligence, kindness, and friendship were treasured by all who knew him on a personal level. He was a past co-chairman of Industry Real Estate Finance Advisory Council, was a recipient of the prestigious "Jack A. Shaffer Financial Advisor of the Year" and "C. Everett Johnson" industry awards, and has long been one of the hotel sector's most recognized spokespeople and experts.

Mark is survived by his wife, Lorri, his two children, Paxton and Brynn, his mother, Dorothy Elliott, sister, Cynthia Ruggles, nephew Brad Damron, and niece Ashley Jenkins.

Thank you Lori, Brynn, and Paxton for sharing the gift of Mark with US.

Having served and conversed many a morning with my brother Mark at my shine stand from his days in the Lenox Building, to our Friday evening feasts and fellowships with friends and family in the Study of The Truth that Transforms-He was a trusted friend, generous mentor, and true model of a hungry follower of Jesus Christ.

Rest In Power and Peace Mark. Love You Man of GOD.

Mark was kind, quick to hear and slow to anger. His love of the Scriptures and C.S. Lewis were inspiring. He alone was probably most responsible the birth of my ministry in 2009 outside of my family. The Holy Spirit used him mightily on this earth and welcomes him with pleasure today. May his house be blessed and bless many for generations to come.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear husband , father and son. I went to high school with Mark 40 years ago. I remember his dedication to his mother with him working hard while going to Heritage and playing basketball.

Mark has a most contagious laugh and smile. When he looks at you and smiles, his warmth comes to you, and somehow encourages you to more of life. His words have always been thoughtful and measured - no careless throw offs, but words to bring courage and hope to even the most trivial of things ' you've got real promise in that golf swing' sort of thing. And sometimes words of focus, that had to be wrestled with and decided upon. He and Lori have big hearts towards people and God's work. He will be greatly missed, and yet he leaves an enduring legacy, now and into the Kingdom to come. much love to Lori, Brynn, and Paxton. Sad to be away out west to miss the celebration of his life.

It was in a Lima, Peru hotel room, the day baby Paxton joined the family, that I met Mark. His generosity then and in later years helped me put Scripture Union on the map in this beautiful country. I full remember the kind and gracious hospitality show me in their lovely home in Atlanta. I will pray most earnestly for you Lorri, Paxton and Brynn; that God may comfort you in a singular way and strngthen you for the days to come in a way only He can do.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of longtime friend Mark Elliott. We met Mark and Lorri shortly after they moved to Atlanta and we became friends. That was 37 years ago. Watching their love for each other and love for the Lord was always an inspiration. Paxton and Brynn are the treasures of their lives and it shows. Mark will be missed by all. Our prayers are with Lorri and the kids as they navigate through this devastating loss.
We love you! ❤️

I remember sitting next to Mark at a dinner in Boston, one of many he treated the members of Brynn’s band to during the time I was a part of her group. He was always so inclusionary and told me to bring along my ex-partner who I’m still on good terms with. I expressed thanks to him to the effect that I had not experienced a whole lot of acceptance or inclusion of my fellow LGBTQ community members from outwardly religious people, and it was a nice change to feel like Sam and I were welcome at his table. He said to me that “no amount of me being different would limit me from being family in his eyes” and that really meant a lot to me. I will never forget how generous and gracious he was.

My heart is absolutely broken for Lorri, Brynn, Paxton and all who were fortunate enough to have spent any time in the presence of Mark Elliot! I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Mark's passing. He was a big believer in me and made me believe in myself - he made such an impact on my life!!! (And arguably, the lives of ALL who knew him!). Rest in Heaven, Mark! Someday we'll be able to rejoice that you're in Heaven, but for now, we are so sad!
