

Martha Turner Jones, 74, of Atlanta died November 9, 2012. Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Edward W. Jones of Atlanta; children, Will (Karen) Jones of Augusta, Lucy Jones of Jackson and Elizabeth (Bobby) Mitchell of Atlanta; 8 grandchildren; sister, Betsy Turner Davison of Darien, Ga., and brother-in-law, Walter Mitchell of Alpharetta. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Henry County High School, McDonough, Georgia, and a 1959 graduate of Emory University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Her love of family was a priority in her life. She was also very active in the Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder; she was awarded the Presbyterian Woman of the Year in 2006 at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Jones’ dedication to her church and fellow man included mission work. The highlight of this work was a trip to Malawi, Africa where she did volunteer work with schools and hospitals. She was single-handedly responsible for providing financial assistance to build a home for the Owen Singine family in Malawi which she loved to call her second home. She was also the chief fund raiser to support the Gay Hatcher Prison Ministry at Pulaski State Women’s Prison. Memorial services for Mrs. Jones will be held Tuesday, November 13 at 1 o’clock in the sanctuary at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gay Hatcher Prison Ministry, % Kemper R. Meadows, 193 Berkley Road, Cochran, GA 31014.
