Mrs. Enloe’s life, which brought joy to so many, was celebrated at 10 o’clock at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in downtown Atlanta on Monday, March 21, 2016. A private burial service will follow.
Beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by son Christopher Sean Enloe (San Francisco, California), daughter Heather Boland Enloe (Marietta, Georgia), son Timothy McGeever Enloe (Milton, Georgia), grandsons Christopher Wyatt and Connor Camp Enloe (San Francisco, California), dogs Sidney and Duchess Enloe, and horses Gabby and Liberty Enloe. Husband Harvey Enloe and sons Harvey, Joseph, and Patrick Enloe predeceased Mrs. Enloe.
Born in Atlanta in 1938, Mrs. Enloe attended Sacred Heart High School in Atlanta, and then Auburn University. She married Harvey Enloe III in 1961, then for the next 30 or so years she was busy with raising her children, overseeing various family moves around the Southeast, and all sort of adventures (planned and impromptu).
In her 50s, after raising her children, Mrs. Enloe dove back into the workforce. Despite the challenges posed by her time with her children and her hearing loss, she studied for and passed the Georgia real estate agent's exam, and went on to a long and successful career as a real estate agent.
She loved fresh vegetables from her garden in the summer, slow cooked stews from her Dutch oven in the winter, and ice cream, coffee and iced tea year round. She did not like "zippy" (spicy) food, fancy coffee, or avocados.
Mrs. Enloe tolerated with good cheer her daughter's avid attachment to the University of Alabama. She even learned to say "Roll Tide" without openly grimacing.
In her retirement, she loved caring for her horses and dogs and was active in various efforts to combat cruelty to animals, including pressing for a local initiative called “Liberty’s Law.”
She also loved playing with her grandsons. This included taking the boys for rides on her John Deere lawn mower, holding hands with the elder one, and keeping a close eye on "that rascal," the younger one.
She was a wonderful mom and her surviving three children will miss her every day of their lives. They are consoled by the faith that she now rests in peace with their father, other siblings, and so many family members and friends.
We love you, Mom.
In acknowledgement of Holy Week and in keeping with Mrs. Enloe’s great love for animals, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, her friends consider a donation to any of the following charities: savethehorses.org , fortheloveofahorse.com , the Atlanta Humane Society, or the Gentle Barn.
