The family of Patricia Rouen Shamley invites you to celebrate her life with us this weekend. We love and miss her: our loving mother, caring grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. Pat was born November 21, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri, and died peacefully in Atlanta on July 19, 2016. Pat was the daughter of Theresa Marie Orrick and Lawrence Thomas Rouen. She was the second oldest of six children and grew up surrounded by a large extended family and many friends. After graduating from high school, Pat worked at the Upjohn Company. A favorite memory of that time was delivering paperwork around the offices on roller skates. During World War II, Pat met Rex Shamley at a dance at the Olathe Navy Base where she jitterbugged her way into his heart. He was an aviation cadet, and they were married on December 7, 1946. They were husband and wife and best friends for 68 years. She is survived by many loving family members, including daughter Kathleen and her husband Craig Chastney, daughter Susan and her husband Jules Beal, granddaughter Melanie Nellis Buckmaster and her husband Jeremy Buckmaster, grandson Jules Beal and his wife Monica Smith, granddaughter Elise Beal, great-grandchildren Amelia Grace Buckmaster, Heidi Lane Buckmaster, and Desmond Smith Beal, honorary grandson Sam Rhodes, his wife Lindsay, and their children Maddux and J.T. She will also be missed by family members Erin Chastney, Melissa and Alex Grace and their children Jack and Piper. We know she was met in heaven by her beloved husband and their granddaughter Michelle Nellis. Pat enjoyed playing tennis, was an avid bridge player and never missed a Garden Club meeting. However her true delight was teaching her children and grandchildren the joys of reading, blowing bubbles, and collecting sea shells. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed. One of her favorite charities is Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, 1275 Peachtree St NE #500, Atlanta, GA 30309. A breakfast reception will be held at 9 a.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Rd, Brookhaven, GA 30319, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Friend and family are invited to gather afterwards to remember Pat.
