Richard was born in Richmond, England to Earl Turner Estes and Dorothy Jean Cosbab Estes on September 2, 1945. Richard’s father’s military career took the family to many cities in the U.S. until finally settling in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Richard followed his father’s commitment to serving his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. His decision to enlist was motivated by a desire to serve his country in Viet Nam. Upon returning home and beginning his career in the insurance industry he married Beth Roper on April 26, 1976 in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1982 Beth and Richard welcomed the birth of their son, Andrew “Andy” Scott. Richard’s hobbies centered around sports. He had a passion for the game of golf yet playing golf paled next to his love of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Earl Turner Estes and his mother, Dorothy Jean Estes.
Richard is survived by his son, Andrew Scott Estes; daughter-in-law, Nicole Grigg Estes; sister and brother-in-law, Renie Estes Eshler and Mark Steven Eshler; and numerous, much loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
