Robert Ward Bresler (“Breeze”), 70, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, in the port of St. Kitts, while on a Caribbean cruise with his wife. Robert was born in Freeport, NY on June 12, 1944 to Doris Wellons and Wilbert Dewitt Bresler. He is survived by his wife, Jane and his nephew, Wesley Groetsema.
Robert was a Marine Corps veteran who proudly served 4 years during the Vietnam War; that is where he earned the nickname “Breeze”. He got his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina, with Distinction in Philosophy. Robert attended the Emory University Candler School of Theology, where he received his Master of Divinity degree.
He had a varied career, ranging from Sales / Order Fulfillment Manager at the catalog company Papillon, to Audio Technician / Tape Librarian with World Championship Wrestling. He spent 12 years as an Elementary School Substitute Teacher for Fulton County (the last 4 of which were spent at the Neighborhood Charter School located in Grant Park, Atlanta.
In 1985, he became President of “They Shoot Videos, Don’t They?”, which focused primarily on shooting plays for the Academy Theatre and Horizon Theatre. And in 2002, he began the job that he loved most, CLIA Accredited Cruise Counselor as a home-based agent with his own company, “WakeLovers Cruises”. In 1994, Robert and Jane went on their first cruise, and fell in love with that lifestyle – it was his favorite way to relax and travel. Over the past few cruises, he tried riding banana-boats on Princess’ private island, cave tubing in Belize, horseback riding into the surf in Grand Turk, helmet-diving with Jane in St. Thomas, and parasailing at Disney’s private island.
At the time of his death, Robert was in the process of becoming a self-published author. His children’s book, “My Very Own Blum”, will be available from Dorrance Publishing next year.
Robert’s funeral will be at H. M. Patterson & Son – Spring Hill on Tuesday, September 30th at 3 o'clock.
