

Robert David Parsons, 75, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014. David was born April 30, 1939 in Liverpool, England to Elizabeth Ruth and Frederick Parsons. He received his masters in mathematics at Oxford University in England before moving to the United States where he finally settled in Atlanta, Georgia. David was the co-owner and principal actuary of Hazlehurst & Associates. He was a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, an associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Upon retiring, David developed a passion for antiquarian books and became a collector and internationally respected expert in the field. He served on the board of the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island; the Folger Library in Washington, DC and was a member of the Grolier Club in New York City. David selflessly donated his time and talents to Emory University’s Theology Library. He also enjoyed the symphony, opera and piano, which he learned to play in his retirement.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Mary Parsons, by his sons: Mark David Parsons, Nicholas Charles Parsons (Christine); daughters: Meredith Hunter (Gary) and Caroline Haskett (Jeff); eight grandchildren: Olivia Bowen Hunter, Gary Hunter, III, Sophia Grace Haskett, Maya Lucia Parsons, Rosemary Linda Haskett, Parker Bowen Haskett, Samantha Ann Parsons and Madeline Elizabeth Parsons.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at HM Patterson & Son Spring Hill. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University in Providence, Road Island or the Folger Library in Washington, DC.
