

Robert Harper Green, Jr., age 65, died on May 26, 2014, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, GA. He was the son of the late Lucy Vaughan Kruse of Columbus, OH, and the late Robert H. Green, Sr. of Milledgeville, GA. He is survived by his stepfather, Lt. Col. Herbert T. Kruse USAF Retired and sister, Katherine Kruse Wolfe (Grant), of Columbus, OH; his stepmother Janet Green; brother, Walter C. Green, and sisters, Suzanne Green, Sherrie Green Harding, and Nannette Green Allen, of Milledgeville, GA; uncle, Ralph P. Harris of Spartanburg, SC; aunt Betty Ann Kalemjian of Exton, PA; cousins, Valette Adkins, Malinda Green Nesmith, and Mervin Green Graham, of Milledgeville, GA; cousin, Deanie Rector, of Union, SC, and cousin, Kitsy Harris Robertson, of Spartanburg, SC.
Born on May 30, 1948 in Columbia, SC, he graduated from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va., where he starred in a number of theatrical productions. In 1970, he graduated from the University of South Carolina, with a major in broadcast journalism. After graduation, he worked as assistant bureau chief for United Press International in Columbia, SC, where he established a reputation for adept political reporting. He lived and worked in San Francisco, CA from 1978 to 1990, and then returned to his southern roots, settling in Atlanta.
Robert loved to cook, entertain, and was known as a "green thumb" for his beautiful patio garden. Robert will also be remembered for his wicked sense of humor, dramatic flair, and irrepressible personality.
Robert had a deep appreciation for the best of southern culture, including southern cooking and southern hospitality. In the face of adversity, he would often quote Scarlett O'Hara: "After all, tomorrow is another day."
The family would like to thank the nurses at the Davita Buckhead Dialysis Clinic for their care as well as the nurses and staff at Piedmont Hospital who gave such wonderful care to him during the last weeks of his life.
